When Josie eats her baby food and then has a bottle after she is fine. At her bedtime bottle is when we have problems. She screams after, arches her back, chokes and is uncontrollable.
When she was 3-4 monthes old we thickened her bottles with rice cereal and then she was terribly constipated. I now use infant oatmeal in her baby food and does fine.
Has anyone ever thickened formula with the oatmeal instead of rice?

I have used oatmeal before when lizzy would get constipated.....it works better if you crush it up some or put in the food processor because it is more grainy than the rice and doesnt break up as well......i measured it the same as the rice......hope this is helpful good luck

I have used oatmeal in bottles just for extra calories, not because Catherine was helped any by thickened bottles.

Be forewarned though ... baby oatmeal cereal has no more fiber in it than baby rice cereal. Don't expect oatmeal to break through any ... uhhhh ... blockage baby might have.

I use both and switch it up now and then, if the oatmeal doesnt work, you could try barley.

If that still doesnt do the trick, they make thickening products like Thick-it or Simply Thick.

Good luck!
