View Full Version : Soy in rice cereal
Emily M 03-09-2006, 08:21 PM Question:
Does Gerber rice cereal have soy in it? If so, could this maybe cause a baby that is MSPI to have "complications"
I only ask because I sent dh to buy some yesterday and he bought "Beech nut". He told me that it said "soy free"??:smt104 I didn't think much about it, but I read another thread on here about soy and rice cereal. Just curious. Thanks girls!
BTW, I usually buy Gerber.
Miori 03-09-2006, 08:27 PM Hmm... I don't know. I've had rotten luck with Gerber cereals so we only use the Organic stuff. I like the consistency better and the ingredients are pure. I know that is doesn't have soy in it - just rice.

The consistency is better with the Beech nut. I noticed it right away. It is alot smoother!
AndrewsMommy 03-09-2006, 08:34 PM Stick to the beechnut then:) I am not sure...I just threw out yesterday an old box of his that hasn't been used in forever...otherwise I'd look for you!!!
CadysMommy 03-09-2006, 08:36 PM I stayed away from Gerber cereal, because soy made Cady puke in any amount when she was little. I'd stay away from Gerber for a little while and see if it helps Jackson any.
Noah's Mom 03-09-2006, 08:37 PM Beechnut is milk and soy free. I think all the others have soy and/or milk in them. I have to drive to the next town over to buy the Beechnut rice cereal. How convenient, right?
sixdogssixcats 03-09-2006, 08:39 PM All Gerber baby cereals have soy in them. Beechnut does not, but it's a regional distribution and may be difficult to find. Earth's Best is also soy free; that's what we've always used.
Emily M 03-09-2006, 08:40 PM Thanks girls. I did not know this. Curious thing, Jackson may get alot better!

That's what we use too...that our Healthy Times.
Emily M 03-09-2006, 08:43 PM I can't find Earth's best around here. hmm... I wonder if anywhere in St Louis **the bigger markets** have it???

Is there an health food store like Wild Oats or Whole Foods there? What about Safeway - they carry it here in Denver. Or you could ask your grocer..sometimes they can do a special order.
If not, let me know and I'd be happy to send some to you!

Cindy 03-09-2006, 10:47 PM I don't know if you are near a Save-A-Lot grocery store but they carry the Beechnut cereals at only .99 a box. Cheapest I've found yet and in a small town like we live in the only place-LOL! I ditto if you need some sent.......

That's awesome! You go girl!
menfusse 03-10-2006, 01:43 PM our Babie-r-Us carries Earths Best. Don't know if it is a universal thing, but if you have one close by you could check. But Beechnut is what we use. No soy, no milk. It is only rice flour, plain and simple. Our GI said absolutely no Gerber.
Miori 03-10-2006, 01:52 PM Our GI said absolutely no Gerber.
Just goes to show you that the big companies don't always know best, do they?! That is so frustrating! Why would they add all that extra junk to the cereal?
Ok...enough of my rant! ;)
sixdogssixcats 03-10-2006, 02:17 PM Soy is added for extra protein. It's perfectly fine for most babies. Rice in and of itself really has no nutritional value.
I hope you find what you're looking for.
