View Full Version : Slowing down flow of g-tube feedings

Micah (3 mo) has been feeding via ng tube and had his g-tube just inserted. Wondering if any of the g-tubers out there can provide advice on slowing down the flow of our gravity bolus feedings. I know lowering/highering the syringe controls flow, but it's been hard to manage the flow compared to our 7 Fr NG tube (G-tube is twice the diameter at 14 Fr). We used to find the right flow with the NG and tape his syringe to the wall and let gravity to it's thing. With the G tube, can't seem to find the right position (always too fast) to ensure Micah gets a slow-paced feeding of 90 cc's in 30-40 minutes. Any ideas? Thanks!

Won't the hospital give you a pump to use?

I do have to agree with Roni on this one. Using a pump is so much easier than doing it the way that you are. Talk to your doc and see if they can get it approved and then go through a home health agency.

Thanks for your responses! I went out and got a kangaroo pump and wish I had discovered this 3 months ago! Exactly what we need.
