Hi, everyone,

I've been reading this board and the one on allergies - you're all heroines! My 6 mo. old little guy has silent reflux and is recently on Prilosec (much better than Zantac after a 2 month nightmare). But he has NO APPETITE (for weeks) - worst days are 16 oz, best days are 24. He has also been developing a "rash" all over his trunk for a month that our ped said was "pre-ezcema" and not to worry. The ped. GI says to switch to Alimentum (he's been on Similac Advance w/ Iron) to rule out the allergic stuff, or at least a milk intolerance. We tried it once 50/50 a few weeks ago and he could barely stand it (took maybe 2 oz) at his best feeding of the day (before bed). I don't want to mess with a poor feeder even more, but don't want to keep feeding him something that seems to be getting worse and may be "poison" to his system. Any help in getting my kiddie to switch formulas? Or any other formulas that might work better? (BTW, we started rice in the bottle about 2 1/2 weeks ago to keep down the spit-up, and then as a solid one week ago, and sweet potatoes yesterday - he seems ok with the spoon!) Thanks!

I would suggest just putting the Alimentum in a bottle alone and not mixing it with the similac. Maybe he could tolerate the taste more then mixing two...

I hope you get if figured out, and it's nice that he is "tolerating" solids and cereal at this point!!! I hope he continues to enjoy them:)

I would suggest trying the Alimentum ALONE - not mixed and no cereal just for a day or so to get him used to drinking it and then start adding the cereal... also you may not notice a difference for a bit yet and it may seem worse before it gets better! :)

I also want to mention... my daughter has NEVER taken more than 20oz a day on the BEST day ever... and she has gained fine since birth. Another thing... if he recently started solids, he will cut down his formula intake because of the solids. Once he is getting more solids in a day most babies cut to 24oz of formula a day - some less. My daughter gets three meals of table food (she gave up baby food at about 7 months) and only drinks 9-15oz a day.

Hope this helps!! Good luck and let us know how it goes! :)
