Today shortly after eating his whole thickened bottle, Brady threw up all of it all over the place. Does thickening cause this? He is usually not a big spitter. Last night I started making 4 bottles at a time in the blender, using 1 tsp of cereal per ounce. The first 2 bottles he did great, ate well and kept them down, but not this am! He has had 1 bottle since that stayed down, so far. Could it be thickening or fluke? Maureen

Probably a fluke - Sam spit up even if it was thickened. I know that we thicken (3tbsp/oz) so much that he has never taken much more than 4 oz at a time. He would get so full from all the cereal that that was all he could take!

I would say a fluke too.

Is it possible he is getting the stomach bug that is passing around with vengence?

My daughter would forcefully vomit (not true projectile) her entire bottle if it was too thick... also just so you know, as the mixture sits in the fridge over night it can thicken a bit more...

It could just be a fluke! but perhaps next time you make a batch, make it a little thinner and see if it makes a difference. It took me awhile to get my daughters mixture right and even now it changes... sometimes thinner sometimes thicker. When I notice her puking more I know it needs to be thickened a bit more.

I hope that helped and good luck... you really have to work at it!!!

i usually make lizzy bottles as i need them unless she is going to grammas then i make them in advance.....i think it could be a fluke.......maybe it is the consistency change from it sitting......it also could not be thick enough...i use 1 Tbsp/2oz........try playing around with it and see what works best.....good luck

I agree with the other ladies. It could be a complete fluke. Cady never puked from the thickening, sometimes Cady had these out of the blue vomits. No rhyme or reason. It happens with these little reflux babies.

Thanks. I asked the doc at his well baby check yesterday, and she said he still has some chest congestion (getting over RSV) and since coughing has triggered any throwing up he has done, she feels it is not the thickening. He has been doing it maybe once a day, alsways following a coughing fit, so I've kept doing what I'm doing.

Glad that you got some input from the Dr. I sure hope Brady is better soon!!

Catherine puked even more with thickened bottles (and she puked plenty without!) I think, for her, it was because she had to suck so much harder to get the sludge through the nipple and swallowed a lot more air as a result. And we never thickened much. Maybe a teaspoon per ounce. It all came out in torrents.
