We have started thickening with organic rice cereal after no luck with zantac. It seems to be helping, but is causing constipation. Right now we add 1 tsp per ounce to her Nutramigen. She is 8 weeks so I am not sure what she can tolerate. I use the suppositories if she is really struggling, but can I use them everyday? Any other ideas? Thanks!!!

You could try using Oatmeal.. I switch between them sometimes when my daughter starts to get constipated. You could also try using a mix of oatmeal and rice as well.
I've been thickening since my daughter was 4 weeks, and you really have to test it out and see how thick she needs it. Some kids needs it thicker than others.
As for the suppositories, I don't know. I havent used them for my daughter. :)
Hope that helps! Good luck!!

We use Thick It instead of cereal.

Talk to your Ped about giving her prune juice. Zantac made him really backed up so we added 1oz to his bottles twice a day.
It's tough when they are that young isn't it? I felt like I was putting so much in to his little system at such an early age!
We had that problem too. Austin started thickened feeds at 2 weeks. We tried prune juice, pedialyte and water with not much luck. Milk of magnesia helped some and now he's on mirilax every day.

the constipation comes from the rice cereal.....i sometimes switch between oatmeal and rice....she also gets lactulose as needed.......since i added oatmeal to her diet she is not constipated as often as she used to be.......but each baby is differet oatmeal works for some and not for others

Oatmeal did the trick for us here, as well. Cady was horribly constipated from the rice thickened feeds, but once we started to do one bottle a day with oatmeal in it, she was all better.

We use barley cereal as Sam doesn't tolerate oatmeal. It works for us. I also substitue 4 oz of pear juice for water when I make bottles for him. I mix up 24 oz at a time so it is really easy to do. I would talk to your ped though. Sam's said that he could have up to 4 oz of juice a day when we started thickening his feedings - at aroun 2 months old. Hope this helps!

I tried mixing oatmeal in with the rice cereal last night. She was definitely less constipated this morning. We have an appointment on Friday. I'm going to talk about some of your ideas then. Thanks to all for your suggestions and experiences!
