There's a possibility that Cady may have been exposed to milk or milk products at my sister's on Friday, but I'm not sure. Cady's cheeks are dry and ruddy, her eczema on her legs and trunk are more pronounced, and she spit up twice today. Of course, she is also sick with a low-grade fever and possible earache, maybe strep. Do you think she is having allergy symptoms or side-effects of her illness. I don't want to jump all over my sister if Cady's illness causing all of this. How quickly do kids react to something they're allergic to? Wouldn't someone allergic to milk react immediately to its ingestion?

Not neccescarily. My 4 year old, had to have a few exposures, then whammo....she would swell up. Once she accidentally got a sippy cup full of milk in sunday school..they forgot...and it took a couple of hours but the rash started and then her eyes were swollen the next day. I think it depends of the severity of the allergy too. Also, excema flares are common with infection. Abby's always flare's. Her cheeks are totally crusty right now and she has a double ear infection. I hope you get it figured out! I hope she feels better soon.

Judy, both my boys react quite quickly when given milk. If they have a rash it gets more pronounced very quick, BUT on the other hand when they are sick the rash comes out as well, so it could actually be either!

Curran now will react within 15 to 30 minutes for milk and resulting colon blows last about 4 days afterwards.

Not everyone reacts right away. Not everyone reacts even on the same day as there are delayed reactions that can take 24 hours to show up.

Since she has so much going on at present the only way you may know for sure is if she has the same reaction each time she is exposed to it.

I hope it's just due to that awful double ear infection and not b/c she was exposed to milk. :-(

Bethany doesn't have a milk allergy, but is intolerant. She starts refluxing within hours of exposure and will become constipated within the next day. :-(

Got it. So sorry to know that but I am so glad you got her checked out when you did. Poor baby.

At least your sister is off the hook, right?

Ugh. Sorry to hear about the flare-up and now ear infection! :( Emma is like Bethany. She gets extra refluxy (pukes nonstop), constipated, but does get eczema and ruddy cheeks.

When exposed to milk, Cady gets extra-refluxy, eczema from head to toe and a blood-red rash on her bottom, along with stomach discomfort and gas. Obvious physical signs of reaction. Of course, now I know that an ear infection can do similar things to Cady. However, by this evening after giving her only rice milk and applesauce all day, her rash on her bottom lightened considerably and she stopped reflluxing by about 5 PM. So, my sister's not off the hook yet. Ear infection or no, I still think she got ahold of something with milk.
