My DS's GI ped. put him on Similac Advance 11 days ago after him being on Nutramigen/Allimentum . He is just not acting as good as he was. He has not been real fussy since about last Wendesday, but just not the same. He is not sleeping the same. I'm having a terrible time getting him to take naps and he gets so cranky without his naps. I'v been laying down with him to get him to take a nap. I know that is bad, but what am I to do? It's like he is not comfortable, squirms around. The GI Ped. wanted me to give the Sim Adv 5 days. I called on the 5th day and he wanted me to give it a few more days. He said I could put him back on Allimentum or Nutramigen if I wanted to.
The proteins in Gentlease are partially broken down and 1/4 of the lactose as reg. formula. Should I try it first since he is not screaming his head off or anything? Or Should I just go back to Allimentum or Nutramigen?? He has been taking his bottle's so good for the last couple of weeks. It makes me so happy I could cry. Last night I was carry DS and had the bottle in the same hand (bottle was by his face). He had his mouth open trying to suck the side of his bottle. So cute..

Well, my advice is to go with the Alimentum, if he did better on that. Our experience with Gentlease was the same as the other formulas we tried, this is not to say that yours will also be, but if he didn't squirm and seemed better on the Alimentum, then why mess with it.
Let us know how it goes.He could have a milk protein intolerance as many kiddos on here do. Mine does and that was part of his uncomfortableness (word?) so when we went to Nutramigen he got alot better.

I'm right there with Emily... why mess with what works?? We tried soooooooo many formulas and Gentlease wasn't really any different than the regular ones for dd. We even tried switching her back after she'd been on the Alimentum for months and it was a disaster... she was gassy, tummy pains, cried in pain and no one slept... ugh.
BTW... I do the same as you, I either lay down with my daughter or she naps on me... I cant get her to sleep any other way.
Good luck, hope that helps! :)

Just a note...I saw on the news this week that Gentlease has been recalled at some stores b/c they found metal particles in it. You may want to check it out to make sure that yours is not in that recall! Scary!!
Here's a link to their press release.

well DH bought a can of Gentlease last night. We are going to try it for a couple of days I think, unless it he gets bad real fast. I did not ever want to take him off of the hypoallergic formulas but the GI PEd said he wanted him on regular formula b/c he didn't think he has an allergy. I don't think he has an allergy either but a milk protein sensitivity. If you eat something and it gives you gas and hurts your stomach you don't eat it anymore---so why couldn't it be the same with DS.

I hope things go well... please check your can of Gentlease and make sure it's not one of those being recalled...

Oh I forgot to post that the can we bought is not one of the recalled cans. I called mead johnson about this b/c DS had been on it in Dec.
I hope this works but I don't know if it will. I get so confused sometimes of what I need to do. The GI didn't give any suggestions of what I should try for him if the SIm Adv didn't work. My DS does ok for me (not as good as he was before on the Allimentum). He seems like he just keeps me moving all the time b/c he is just fussy. But my poor DH really has a time. I work 12 hr shifts 3 times a week so DH has to help me some during the day so I can rest. I could hear DS fussing all morning with DH.
I was thinking about calling GI Dr back. What else did I go to him for anyway if he can't suggest another formula. I guess he did say I could go back to Allimentum if I wanted to. But what is he thinking behind that. I want to know--I guess the nurse in me wants to know.

Jackson was the same way. Use your intuition. He was Milk and soy protein intollerant, we found out not by my doc. but we put him back on regular Enfamil after he got on med. and he refused to eat for 4 days, screamed, cried, nose got really stuffy, eyes watered. It was bad. My dh went out and bought a can of Nutramigen and voila, he ate like he was starved.
I told my ped. and he didn't think it was odd that he refused, he knew, of course by the smell, probably, that it was the one that hurt him so he wasn't going to eat. And since he had the whole runny nose and eyes with his, on top of gas, fussy, then we think that his may be an allergy to milk.
Let us know how he does. Give it 5 days, I think, to kick in.

Update:
SO far so good. We ran all over town today and he did wonderful with the Gentlease. He smiled and laughed all day. Which he has not done much of in the last 12 days. DH and I ate out and he played in his carseat the whole time. He fell asleep in Toys R'
US while I was shopping.
It is still early (he has just been on it since 1:00 pm yesterday). Oh, and he slept from 9:30 to 7:00 with a 12:00 dream feed last night.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works for him. It makes me so sad to see him upset.

Another update--. Ds has been back on Allimentum for over a week now. He is so much better. the Gentlease did good for 1 one day. Maybe he felt so much better than on the Sim Adv. I think we wil definately stick with Allimentum. It's like we have a different baby. He is so happy smiling and laughing all the time. Before he had to be held and walked all the time, and I could hear him pass gas in the next room. Some say if there passing the gas that is good. When it is a lot I don't think so b/c that is just what is coming out. I don't think it is an allergy just an intolerance. The Similac rep where I work sent me 24 16oz. cans of Alliementum. What a blessing that is. That is $540.00...WOW.
It's so hard to be a baby. Especially a cute one.
