View Full Version : How often should I feed solids?
ConnorsMommy 02-24-2006, 10:54 PM Connor will be 7 months old on the 27th we started solids about a month ago and have had a rocky time. So far applesauce is a winner and thats about it. Anyway I was just wondering how many times a day at this age should I be offering him solids?
AndrewsMommy 02-24-2006, 10:59 PM I always gave Andrew a jar for breakfast, lunch and dinner and then the older he got I gradually bumped it up....
Have fun introducing new things...I always loved the "looks" on the boys faces, when we did something new!

Any improvement with the solids? I know how hard this is. {{{HUGS}}} I would offer it to him 2-3 times, but let him lead. Don't be afraid to give him some space if he has a hard time with one. Noah always does best if we abandon all solids after a nasty reaction. I hope Connor can find another safe food!
OwensMom 02-25-2006, 04:58 AM At that age I would off him 2-3 times a day. I hope you can find some more foods that he can tolerate. It is frustrating to try out new things and just see them react to it so horrible. Owen doesn't have too many foods that he can eat either. He gets solids 3 times a day and is almost 10 months old.
Emily M 02-25-2006, 06:32 AM I agree with everyone else Kim. My ped. just told me to do solids 3 times a day, as Jack is not taking his bottles at this time. I always try a bottle after his solid to see if I will get lucky!
KaitlynsMom 02-25-2006, 07:22 AM When K was just starting out, from about 4-7 months, I only consistantly gave her "breakfast" solids. I couldn't give them anywhere near her bottle so it was always two hours after.
at about 7 months I started doing Breakfast and dinner... and just now we are working on getting in 3 meals but as I do this it's cutting into her bottles which I think she needs more right now. Her solids arent enough... I would rather get in 4 bottles (12-18oz total) than 3 meals and only 3 bottles (which would mean she only got 9-15oz a day). Anyway... thats how I'm doing it... though she is on table foods and has been since about 7 months as well.
sixdogssixcats 02-25-2006, 10:14 AM Offer a few bites at every meal (BLD) and work up to a whole jar at every meal. At 7 months, you have plenty of time to build up to any quantity of solids at each meal.
Nathan'sMommy 02-25-2006, 10:26 AM At that age, I offered breakfast and lunch, and once that was established, I added dinner.
Have fun with the solids!
Miori 02-27-2006, 11:23 AM Our Ped wanted us to start with 3 solids a day, that was the advice at his 6mth appt. He's almost 7mth's now and most days I can only get 2 solids in him.
Of course, part of it is that he and I lounge in bed for an hour or so in the morning so that is always a bottle meal. I suppose I have to give that up sooner or later!
I've had good luck doing solids mid-morning and at dinner time.
KaitlynsMom 02-27-2006, 01:37 PM Miori, I do the same thing though i'm trying to get into giving her something an hour after her first bottle... usually a waffle or something so she can feed herself.
btw - I got your mail, thanks! :) you have NO idea how much I need that this week... we're out of formula AND money til Fri... sigh i'm at a loss of what to do...
ZacsMom 02-27-2006, 02:08 PM Yep we started out w/morning and evening and then went morning noon and evening.
Emily, Jackson is on solids already???? Like spoon solids?
chaflood 03-09-2006, 06:26 AM I'm starting to feel as if my daughter is late in the game. She is 5 1/2 months and doesn't have the interest in eating with a spoon. They wanted me only to try rice cereal for one month, but she has like a tongue thrust that she just pushes everything out. Should I be pushing the spoon more than once a day and if so, what time of day with her bottles is good to do the solids?

Andrew had that same problem.....I'd continue trying..that is the only way you will get her use to it!
You can add that feeding in anywhere during the day that will work best for you!!
Maya has BLD and a stage 2 jar at each, she really prefers her solids to her bottle, but given the relationship she's had with her bottle this is not entirely surprising. I am thinking of giving her dessert at dinner as well. It hasn't been entirely problem free though she seems to be intolerant to soya, egg and wheat as well as milk, if I stear clear of these she's fine. I do worry about a restricted diet but am hoping she'll grow out these intolerances eventualy!
