View Full Version : Why does this happen?

For a while Owen was doing good on mashed up foods and now all of a sudden he gags and throws up on anything with chunks in it or a little thicker. He loved to eat his little dairy free cookies that I got him from the German store over here and now he gags on every bite and a lot of the times spits it out again.
He does fine with the stage 2 jars and if I throw his food in the blender and feed it to him. He has also started that when he is full and takes that last bite to gag really hard, that's when mealtime is over since I don't want him to throw it all up again. He is eating less solids too, before he got sick he was able to eat the amount of a stage 3 jar now he sometimes doesn't even finish the stage 2. I don't know where this is coming from, he doesn't seem in pain or anything like that. I think he is fine in the medicine compartment and doesn't need his dose upped. If anybody has any suggestions they are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hmm, this is just a guess but when Elis reflux was irritating him he was definitelly more prone to gagging and choking, could that be it?

Also, Eli could not handle being full on solids, any stages, it would cause him to get sick because he has a sensitive gag reflux and the solids opened up a whole new door of puking for him. Sorry, that probably didn't sound very encouraging... :smt047

He doesn't seem more refluxy than before. I just don't know, maybe it's becuse I cut down on the Prilosec and than stopped it all together and he was fine until Tuesday and than we had to start it again. But he already gagged before, grrrr it's just driving me nuts not to know why. Poor hubby he is just joining that ride and doesn't know what is really going on yet.

Melanie,

We find that when Evan has been sick, it takes a long time to get his eating back up to where it was. It used to be that we'd go from the toddler entrees back down to stage 1 and then to liquids only for a few days. The length of time and the severity have decreased over the years.

Thanks Janette, that's good to know. I'm hopeful than that he will start eating better again soon.

We had a phase where Matthew regressed with his eating.. I am really not sure why he did that... it didn't really seem to be related to anything (ecept he was getting 2 teeth) and then I just kept offering it evey few days and all went well. Weird.. I'm not sure hwat was going on. He's not getting teeth is he?? Or a cold??

He just got 1 tooth again but it's already out. His cold is a lot better than it has been.:smt102 , who knows why they do what they sometimes do. I hope it's just a phase and we are done with this soon.
