View Full Version : ANOTHER question a bit of TMI

Sorry...this whole switch over thing brings up many questions in my mind...here's ANOTHER:

I've cut out the mid morning nursing so he chomps in am and pm and a snack around 3 (nursing). I've always seemed to think I have an abundance of milk. When he starts you can actually see milk around the rim of his lips as he's guzzling.
Well, I USE to (on occassion) kindof pinch my nipples to make sure stuff was "squirting" out. I guess it just satisfied my curiosity? :dontknow: LOL  ANYWAY...I hadn't done that in ages...but I was curious after cutting out one and a half nursings. This morning when I woke up to nurse him I tried this w/the side that he was not latched to. I got no squirt, a bit of dribble. I found it odd because you woudl think that over night I would haev the most by morning right? OR maybe not, since my body is use to not needing milk overnight? About an hour ago I tried again and I got squirts! Maybe it was gravity? I had been lieing flat all night? Heck if I know. I'm j ust nervouse about my supply although I can't see that it would be diminishing. I've heard that you will NEVER "run out" of milk as long as you're BFing...:dontknow:
I do knwo of many who have only nursed once or twice a day and that is my goal...but i'm so nervouse that it'd "run out" or something from not nursing during the day. AGAIN, I have no problems switching him off completely now...i'm anxious for it actually...BUT this whole milk switch still has me nervouse after 3 wks w/no reactions. I want to be 100% sure that he is ok w/it regarding poops (which I think he is) and reflux (which i'm not sure yet) before I cut it all.
<SIGH> Sorry to ramble I just wanted to write down all these thoughts and questions while I had them in my head. I know we'll get it eventually.

I'm not sure, but I remember hearing from one of my LLL leaders that as the kiddos enter toddlerhood, our letdown response is no longer on such a hair trigger. I mean, just because you get "squirts" sometimes and not others may not necessarily mean anything re: your milk supply.

I used to be able to sort of "squeeze" and see what was coming out, but now my body seems to know it's me poking around there looking for milk, as opposed to my little nursling.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Sounds like your girls are working fine to me and adjusting to everything O.K..

I nursed Emilia just 2 times a day for a long time and then once in the morning for GOSH I think it was like 3 months.

It's amazing how our bodies work isn't it?
here's a link to kellymom on weaning. I didn't read it myself, but I really like kelly mom and all the other info I have found there so I am assuming there will be something there that will help you through this transition.

Hey Sara,

The others are right! Your boobs adjust and change, nothing to worry about. The let down won't be as obvious and they won't even get ingorged but there is still plenty of milk in there!

Sara...if you feel your not producing as much now as you were before you cut the one nursing out, you can always refill "the girls" by taking Fenugreek, it is available at any health food store, even CVS. I had to take that in the beginning with Andrew because he wouldn't latch on in the hospital and it took a few days after for my supply to come in....
When I took the Fenugreek, those babies filled up like balloons!!

Good Luck, I am sure you'll get it all figured out.

Great loads of information here. I would think that they are working just fine and they likely have plenty of supply in there they just no longer need to "show off".
