Catherine only makes vowel sounds (ahhhh, iiiiiii, etc) but she does make these in combinations (iiiiiiiiiii-uh, for example). Vowel sounds, I figured out, only required you to express air and change pitch; they require no shaping of the lips to produce sound.

I'm don't know where I'm going with this. It's just an observation I made. A lightbulb went on, but I'm getting no illumination, lol.

Anyone else have a kiddo do this?

Lesley, I think that is what Zoee was doing for a while and now she is saying some words. The St that we have sounds it is a good sign if they are doing vowel sounds. It is a start she said. Hope that helps a bit.

Just noticed my typo! I meant for the title to say "Consonant" sounds. Ack!

Lesley--that's how Bethy started. Lots and lots of vowel sounds. At first, they were just as you described Catherine's--single vowel sounds with no combinations. ("Ooooo", "Aaaaaa", etc.)

It sounds like she's headed in the right direction, Lesley. What a relief, eh? ;)
