I just want to get input about how many of you had bad experiences and good experiences with Reglan. Asher's GI wants to try it next and I won't consider it untill his gastric emptying test confirms DGE. The Erythromycin isn't really doing anything and it has been about 2 weeks. We are running out of options.

Have you tried bethanechol? Our GI won't use Reglan, too many serious side effects they have seen. Having said that, there are many kids who take it successfully on it, so giving it a try might be worth it if it helps.

Hope that helped.

Isabelle has been on it for 2 weeks now and has show BIG improvement over the prevacid she was on before. BUT she is more restless at night. YUP just what we need MORE reason for our baby NOT to sleep! I have a call into the doc now because he didn't want to keep her on it if it wasn't making a HUGE difference. He said something about trying axcid next....

We're neutral about Reglan. Daniel didn't have any bad side effects, but it also didn't seem to help reduce his puking.

My daughter had negative side effects, but they went away a few days after taking her off of it. She was on it for 3 days. I think that if he is really struggling, knowing you have already tried erythromycin, I would try it knowing eactly what side effects to look for. The minute you see any negative ones, you take him off of it and move on.

If you do it that way, I don't see how it would hurt. Hope that helps, I know it is a hard decision!

Amy..Andrew has been on it for two weeks also. No serious side effects from it either. He did get diahrrea but I don't know if it was from that or the polycose..It is worth a try?

I have four children that have used reglan with no side affects. My one child is still on it and has been taking it now for almost 5yrs staight. This is a med that you either love or hate and for most kids it really doesnt help.

My one son used zelnorm for a few years as a motility drug. Alot of gi docs are now using this as motility drug and as another option. The problem is there is not much to do for delayed gastric emptying if the meds dont work.

I was wondering where you are at because if the delay is severe there are other meds out there that are used by certain facilities and through approval only. I do wish you luck and hope that you can get some relief soon.

Cady was on Reglan for four months and it did what it was supposed to. It got things moving and she was hungrier. She ate more and was in less pain, but still spit up a bit. No bad side effects, except for a few days of irritability and sleeplessness.

It a hard decision. I guess it's again like figuring out the lesser of the 2 evils.
For us it was worth a shot, but it did take me a whole day after filling the RX to actually give it to him.

We tried it, but only for a day.
I was a nervous paranoid wreck, and Eric seemed...
well, the only way I can describe it is angry. Just very very angry. but honestly it could have been a coincidence. He wasn't doing well at all at the time, and like I said I was completely paranoid.
Luckily it wore off about 6 hours after his last dose.

I wish you all the luck with whatever you decide.

Emily has been on reglan since she was about 3 1/2 weeks old. At first, she didn't have any side effects that I noticed, but it also didn't really help anything. Her dose was upped a couple of weeks ago significantly and the increase caused her to be very irritable and she cried alot more than usual, which is ALOT considering she cries quite a bit as it is. But after a few days, that wore off and it seems to be working. She actually gets hungry now on a regular schedule and she doesn't puke straight milk 3 hours after her last bottle. You can always try it and if he doesn't tolerate it, take him off.

Sorry, I have no experience with reglan but as others have said it is a love it or hate it kind of drug.

Janette's son uses something else, domperidone I think?

I hope you find something soon.

Hello, we tried bethanochol but that didn't do anything for us-perhaps the dose was too low as it was prescribed by the ped who way underdosed the Prevacid too. Our GI said it was a worthless drug-but again, that's only his opinion. We have been on Reglan for four months with no side effects except for initial irritability which went away. Was working well but now we're seeing a lack of interest in the bottle-could be allergies or teething though. Time will tell. Driving me crazy though.

Sorry I missed this thread earlier, and thanks for the heads up, Leigh!

I guess no one really knows if their will be side effects with Reglan until they try it. It's like that with many drugs. Often we just hear about the side effects and not the positives. Leigh is right. The drug that has helped Evan is Domperidone.

My 3 month old has had prior surgery for pyloric stenosis and was put on reglan about a week after surgery to help with vomiting. He did not vomit as much while taking this.....but was more irritable and screamed more. I took him off and he vomits more but is less irritable. I took him off because I researched reglan and it has some pretty scary side effects. It can even cause neurological damage later in life. I just felt like my baby should have a say in whether or not he takes a drug that could possibly damage his brain. And, since obviously...a 3 month old can't voice his oppinion, I took him off it. My GI dr said that most drs are not giving that drug to babies anymore because of current studies. However, every drug has potential bad side effects. To some parents...reglan is a miracle drug and hasn't had any bad effect of their child. In a perfect world we wouldn't have to give any medicine to precious little babies except love.
